Integrated SEnsing, Energy & Communication for 6G Networks

The research project iSEE-6G will identify and describe in high-level key use cases focusing on the operation of UAVs in the cell-free, user-centric 6G radio environment and the definition of the aerial corridors as an emerging requirement for new 6G-enabling services.

Shaping the Future of 6G

Innovative 6G solutions, like joint communication and sensing, address diverse challenges for smart transportation, cities, healthcare, emergency response, security and environmental monitoring. In this context, the EU-funded iSEE-6G project proposes a holistic layered architecture that investigates, for the first time, Joint Communications, Computation, Sensing and Power transfer from the radio channel and the reconfigurable, intelligent antenna to the UAV-supported applications focusing on accurate localization, Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) and IoE on a unified radio platform for future 6G networks.

Specifically, the project integrates key enabling technologies, offering novel intelligent reconfigurable surfaces and antennas, optimised physical layer design, collaborative sensing, cross-layer schemes and system-level solutions.

Proof-of-concept trials conducted on iSEE-6G testbeds  demonstrate its potential, focusing on aerial corridor use cases with collection of key performance indicators on network, sensing, and power transfer performance. With plans for outdoor venue extension, iSEE-6G heralds advancements in public protection and disaster relief monitoring and JCCSP-as-a-service deployment.

Overarching Objective

iSEE-6G proposes a holistic layered architecture that investigates, for the first time, Joint Communications, Computation, Sensing and Energy transfer

  • from radio channel and the reconfigurable, intelligent antenna to
  • the UAV-supported applications focusing on accurate localization, Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) and IoE.

Following a bottom-up methodological approach with continuous verification, iSEE-6G validates the developed technologies through simulation; laboratory, clean-room experiments (with hardware-in-the-loop), and two large-scale PoCs in testbed facilities of two prestigious iSEE-6G partners.
